This is a two-year fellowship in Pulmonary Disease. Fellows who successfully complete the program and are board certified in Internal Medicine will be eligible to sit for the certifying examination in Pulmonary Disease offered by the American Board of Internal Medicine. The program is accredited by the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. We recruit two fellows per year for the program. For the most part training takes place at Bridgeport Hospital with electives and conferences at Yale. There is a month long rotation in Pulmonary Rehabilitation at the Hospital For Special Care. Off campus elective rotations are permitted and frequently taken. The emphasis of the training is on clinical pulmonary disease and that will include bronchoscopy, ICU procedures, pulmonary function testing including exercise studies and bronchoprovocation tests. Fellows participate in a busy consultation service as well as in the Chest Clinic, which includes patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Regular conferences are scheduled in the areas of clinical pulmonary medicine, pulmonary physiology and basic science. The fellows are expected to attend the weekly State Chest Conference at Yale. There is an active research program and presentation at national meetings is both encouraged and funded.
