It is expected that the fellow will participate in original research during their year at Bridgeport Hospital. The program has been involved in several multicenter trials including Protect TIMI-30, TIMI-38, TIMI-Improve It, REPLACE, STELLAR, SYNERGY, CREDO, and many others. Previous fellows have done original research in such topics as improving door to balloon times in primary angioplasty, thrombectomy in acute myocardial infarction, transient apical ballooning syndrome, and many case reports. The fellow is supported by many experience faculty members and a large research nursing program.
There is a monthly research meeting with the cardiology fellows where individual research and hospital-wide research is discussed amongst all general and interventional trainees. Additionally, interpretation of the research literature is discussed during our Journal Club. Each fellow attends four lectures regarding statistics and ethics during a formal program sponsored by the University of Connecticut.
