Medical equipmentThe endoscopy suite is part of a new outpatient facility. With the portable equipment, urgent cases can also be done on location in the ICUs, in the emergency room, or on the wards. We have the latest in video-endoscopy equipment and computerized endoscopy image capture and reporting system, permitting a wide variety of interventional techniques. Besides upper endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, procedures include percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, sclerotherapy and banding, polypectomy, BICAP and injection hemostasis, esophageal dilatation, as well as laser therapy. ERCP along with sphincterotomy, stone retrieval, nasobiliary tube insertion and stent placements, as well as esophageal guide-wire or balloon dilatation and stent placement are all done using fluoroscopy in the Radiology Department. The GI Fellow does an average of 6 endoscopies per day and by the end of his/her training has done many more than the recommended number for accreditation purposes. Over 8000 procedures per year are performed in our Endoscopy Suite. In addition, we have state-of-the-art computerized motility equipment for the performance of esophageal, gastric and small bowel manometry and 24 esophageal pH monitoring. Encoscopic ultrasound and capsule endoscopy are also performed in our Endoscopy Center.
