The program is under the direction of Dr. George Abdelsayed, the Chief of GI and the Program Director of the Yale-Affiliated GI Fellowship Program at Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. Tarun Gupta, Director of Hepatology, is a part-time gastroenterology faculty member, splitting time between Bridgeport Hospital and the West Haven VA. The section of GI has 12 private adult gastroenterologists and one pediatric gastroenerologist. Each member of the GI faculty is actively involved in teaching the clinical and endoscopic aspects of GI as well as in supervising various research projects. Each fellow must complete at least 2 such projects during their training.

The GI Program Director

Dr. George Abdelsayed is a graduate of New York Medical College and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital and Fellowships in Clinical Nutrition and Gastroenterology at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, Bronx New York. Before coming to Bridgeport Hospital, Dr. Abdelsayed served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and GI Endoscopy at Barnert Hospital, Paterson, New Jersey.
