Salary & Benefits Resident/fellow salaries range from $48,200 – $65,500 per year. All housestaff members receive four weeks vacation per academic year and accrue 12 sick days per year. Additional details regarding vacation/leave is provided in the Vacation/Leave/ Termination Policy. Residents are eligible for medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, Short Term Disability (STD) and life insurance immediately upon beginning their training. While in residency, Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage is provided to all housestaff members at no cost. It can be assumable at guaranteed low rates by the housestaff member after leaving training.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) This program provides confidential counseling and problem assistance for employees with personal and work related problems. Available to employees and their immediate family members, the EAP provides individualized help through professionally trained counselors. EAP professionals deal with a wide variety of issues affecting personal well being and job performance. You may contact the EAP office by calling 1-866-384-BPT4 (2784).
Meals Meals are available through the cafeteria and the lobby coffee shop. Residents at Bridgeport Hospital are provided with a meal allowance of $10 per on-call assignment. Also, a refrigerator (located in the Call Room Suite) is stocked with nutritious food and beverages.
Note: Hospital meals are already subsidized for employees by the Hospital so food prices are lower than regular prices outside the Hospital.
Parking Application for the Parking Garage may be made at the Security Office. Your Hospital I.D. Badge will be encoded to allow you access to the Garage. Parking fees are waived for housestaff. Parking charges, while on rotation at Yale, will be reimbursed by the Department of Medical Education to the resident/fellow.
Uniforms and Laundry Two lab coats and 6 sets of scrubs are provided to each new residents/fellow and will be laundered at no cost to the housestaff member.
I.D. Badge An identification badge is required for all Hospital personnel and is to be worn at all times when in the Hospital. Access to key areas including (but not limited to) the Library, Learning Resource Center, Housestaff Lounge and Medical Records is possible only with a valid I.D. badge.
On Call Rooms A secured, dedicated resident on call sleep area is provided to residents. Mini suites of 3 single rooms with 1-2 bathrooms are arranged around a large common area.
Lockers Lockers for personal effects and a separate locker for scrubs is provided. The location of lockers varies among the training programs.
Pay Procedures Bimonthly paychecks are distributed by the Department of Medical Education on alternate Wednesday afternoons. Direct deposit of your paycheck into checking and/or savings account(s) is available. For security purposes, the Cashier’s Office is unable to cash payroll or personal checks. An ATM is conveniently located in the Hospital lobby.
Bridgeport Hospital has an on-premise employee Credit Union which offers a variety of banking services.
Resident Research Residents are encouraged to conduct scholarly activity during their training at Bridgeport Hospital. The requirements of a specific residency program should be reviewed with the Program Director or designee.
Each spring the Department of Medical Education sponsors the Annual Science Symposium where residents and fellows can present their research activities from case reports to basic science projects. Many residents use the forum to prepare for regional or national meetings in their specialty.
The Department of Medical Education will support any resident or fellow who is presenting an abstract at a meeting in the amount of up to $1,500 per trip. All reimbursed conference attendance must receive prior approval by the Director of Medical Education. Requests not previously approved will not be reimbursed from the Department of Medical Education budget.
Annually, the Department of Medical Education will make available research funding for new investigators. The Medical Research Advisory Board will determine the recipients of these competitive funds.
