PHYSICIAN HEALTH

The following excerpt is from the Bridgeport Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws (Appendix I, Rules and Regulations, 7.1) and is applicable to resident staff.

"If any member of the Medical Staff or Hospital Staff suspects in good faith that a physician member of the Medical Staff is or may be unable to practice medicine with reasonable skill or safety due to (1) physical illness or loss of motor skill, (2) emotional disorder or mental illness or (3) abuse or excessive use of drugs, alcohol, narcotics or chemicals, he/she shall report such information to the Physician Health Program of the Connecticut State Medical Society. The Program also accommodates self-referral by a physician for confidential evaluation and treatment except as required by regulatory agencies."
